Whether you’re a basketball fan or a sports fanatic, you might recognize the name Nate Robinson. Celebrated for his presence in the NBA and his record-breaking three NBA Slam Dunk titles, Nate is now facing one of his toughest challenges yet. The former NBA star is in urgent need of a kidney transplant and relies on dialysis to sustain his life.
About Nate Robinson
After an 11-year career in the NBA, where he played for the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Chicago Bulls, Robinson now spends his time undergoing dialysis.
This life-sustaining treatment, which he requires for four hours a day, three days a week, is critical for removing toxins from his blood due to his failing kidneys. Despite the physical toll, including frequent and severe illness that often results in hospital stays, Robinson remains determined to fight for his life. "I know that I don't have long if I can't get a kidney," Robinson stated, reflecting on the realities of his health crisis.
Amidst these challenges, Robinson strives to maintain a semblance of normalcy and positivity. He has made significant dietary changes, avoiding processed foods and is focusing on healthier options like fruits and grilled meats to support his well-being. These adjustments are part of his broader effort to manage his condition and extend his life as much as possible. Robinson cherishes every moment he can feel healthy, especially when spending time with his family and playing basketball, the sport he loves. His ongoing battle with kidney disease has not only tested his physical and emotional resilience but has also deepened his gratitude for life.

KIDNEY DONATION
How does kidney donation work?
A donor doesn’t need to be an exact match. In fact, because of the Nobel Prize-winning paired kidney exchange program, your kidney donation will not only save one life, but it will save several more in the chain.
Living kidney donation is safe, and all costs associated with your donation are covered. Living donor kidneys also last much longer than deceased donor kidneys. A deceased donor kidney transplant, on average, lasts 10-15 years, while a living donor transplant lasts 12-20 years.
