When we tap into the compassion and connection of communities, we can radically increase the number of living kidney donors around the world and save tens of thousands of lives every year. Community-directed donation is a new approach to living kidney donation. We empower potential donors to personalize their life-saving gift by selecting a specific “community” to help. While the donation is still essentially anonymous, the donor gets to help “their people” even when they don’t personally know anyone who needs their help.
Whether it’s someone who is close to you or someone from your broader community, kidney disease affects nearly everybody in the United States, one way or another. Worse yet, it’s a problem without an elegant solution. But thanks to innovative ideas like paired kidney exchange, just one simple donation can have an exponential benefit to not just one life, but many more.

Kidneys for Communities is proud to announce our collaboration with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and The Knox Company to support our firefighting heroes and their families in need of a living kidney transplant. Through the NFFF and the Knox Company’s “Expand Your Legacy” campaign and our “Kidneys for First Responders” initiative we will provide a clear pathway for both those in need of a kidney and individuals wanting to support someone within the firefighter community.
